Many small but important details are part of our watches, which, as an owner, you may not initially notice and may never be aware of. We are publishing a series of articles which will discuss and highlight some of these details, and today, in this article, we are taking a more detailed look at the specially designed and custom-made screw in crown which is used on the Pioneer.

Geckota Pioneer Screw Down Crown

Fitted with an internal rubber gasket, the crown has carefully machined external teeth and an internal thread that allows the crown to be screwed down into the case. The crown's stem is sprung, which means the crown will pop out when it is unscrewed, which allows the watch to be wound and the time to be set.

In the image above, we can see that this crown also has a special black coloured step on the inner side, which makes the toothed part easier to grip and also gives the crown a stronger visual presence.

We can also see the carefully applied brushed finish that has been applied to the surface of the teeth.

Geckota Pioneer Screw Down Case Tube

Sitting within a circular recessed area on the side of the case, a threaded tube is firmly attached to the case. The tube has carefully tapped teeth and an external thread that allows the crown to be screwed down into the case. Inside the tube, there is also a rubber gasket, which, along with the screw thread and the gasket in the crown, helps to keep any moisture and dirt out of the watch case.

Geckota Pioneer with Crown

When the crown is fitted to the stem, it aligns perfectly with the tube and is used to manually wind the watch and set the time.
